Become a Referee

How to Get Started

One must take the official Fencing Officials Commission(FOC) referee seminar, which is given around the Division by Jeff Bukantz or Abdel Abdelaziz. Look in the 'Clinics' section on FRED's homepage. Read the "Become a Referee" page on the FOC website.

How to Get Hired

To be hired by clubs in local USFA tournaments and by the NJ Division for qualifiers, we strongly recommend that prospective referees update their records in the Fencing Officials Commission database with current e-mail addresses. Tournament managers will then be able to contact you thru FRED. Hiring will be for the highest-rated refs first and fill-in as registrations are received. Priority will be given for referees with a rating in more than one weapon.
